Job Description & Requirements Specialty: PCU - Progressive Care Unit Discipline: RN Start Date: 04/13/2026 Duration: 13 weeks 36 hours per week Shift: 12 hours, days Employment Type: Travel Assignment Overview Shift: Days, 3x12hrs Hours: 36 hrs/wk Start Date: Apr 13, 2026 Length: 13 weeks Openings: 1 Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/Med-Surg/Oncology travel assignment at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring at least 1 year of PCU and oncology experience with active NE or Compact RN licensure. Details Stepdown/PCU unit with a mixed oncology and trauma patient population in an acute care hospital setting Unit has 27–28 beds with RN ratios of 1:4 (PCU) and 1:5 (Med-Surg) on days, and 1:5–6 on nights Common diagnoses include oncology (from diagnosis through remission) and trauma Common drips and medications include chemotherapy, heparin, cardizem, and protonix; RNs may be required to titrate insulin and cardizem drips Specialty equipment includes Alaris IV pumps and Lyko lifts in even-numbered rooms EMR is Epic; recent Epic experience (within 6 months) is noted for orientation planning purposes but is not required 12-hour day shifts (7a–7p); additional shift times available include 7a–3p, 3p–7p, 7p–11p, 11p–7a, and 7p–7a Self-scheduling with every other weekend required Float required to same level of care (Med-Surg and PCU units) 13-week contract Requirements Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses will not be accepted Required certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS, NIHSS, and ONS/ONCC — all must be active; pending certifications will not be accepted Minimum 1 year of PCU and oncology RN experience required Chemotherapy certification preferred but not required Competency with ventilators and hemodynamic monitoring (CVP, A-line, Swan, EV-1000) and ICP monitoring; on-the-job training available for these skills Candidate must reside more than 50 miles from the facility (driver's license used to verify permanent address) Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year (PRN employment through outside staffing firms is acceptable) 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire Copy of driver's license required for consideration Additional Information Care for oncology patients across the full care spectrum — from diagnosis through remission — as well as trauma PCU patients Multidisciplinary support team includes nursing assistants, charge nurses, PT/OT, RN case managers, social workers, an educator, and a dietician Scrub color requirement: Navy blue Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply will result to contract termination Orientation consists of 2 days (approximately 12 hours); includes a pass/fail open-book exam on skills learned — a minimum score of 90% is required to pass RTO of 7 days or fewer per 13-week contract must be disclosed upfront; additional RTO will not be approved after consideration First-time travelers are welcome to apply RTO of 7 days or fewer per 13-week contract must be disclosed upfront; additional RTO will not be approved American Traveler Job ID P-685745.
