Job Description & Requirements Specialty: ICU - Intensive Care Unit Discipline: RN Start Date: 05/04/2026 Duration: 18 weeks 48 hours per week Shift: 12 hours, days Employment Type: Travel Assignment Overview Shift: Days, 4x12hrs Hours: 48 hrs/wk Start Date: May 4, 2026 Length: 18 weeks Openings: 1 Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced travel RN for a mixed ICU position in Rapid City, SD, requiring Epic proficiency, TNCC certification, and a minimum of one prior travel assignment. Details Mixed ICU setting with 39 beds divided into pods, including MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU Complex patient population including ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multiple system trauma cases Cardiac experience preferred, particularly with CABG/TAVR 24–48 hrs post-op; fresh open heart cases are not assigned to travelers without documented experience Patient ratios are 1:1 or 1:2, with 1:3 occurring rarely based on acuity Charting via Epic (required); Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter) and Omnicell also in use 12-hour day shifts, 48 hours per week Every other weekend rotation No on-call requirements Floating to adult floors including Med/Surg or Tele (1:4 ratio) is uncommon but possible when overstaffed Requirements Active RN license in South Dakota or a Compact state currently in hand Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must be obtained prior to start) Minimum 2 years of ICU experience excluding travel experience strongly preferred; candidates with at least 1.5 years of ICU experience (excluding travel) plus significant RN experience outside the ICU may be considered Epic EMR experience required Experience with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics Experience with hemodynamic lines, ventilator management, proning, and telemetry monitoring Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred Strong critical thinking, assessment skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration DOB and SSN required for consideration Additional Information First-time travelers will not be considered; a minimum of one prior travel assignment is required Candidates must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligible Former permanent staff must wait one year before returning as a traveler Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit, a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, a resource nurse (staffing dependent), 24/7 respiratory therapy, phlebotomy for peripheral draws, and intensivist coverage around the clock Orientation consists of a hospital orientation day, one 12-hour shift, and one 8-hour shift on the ICU No RTO approved during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August) Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved; extensions may be required to fulfill a full contract term Scrubs: Navy blue required Free parking available on-site American Traveler Job ID P-683710.
