Job Description & Requirements Specialty: ICU - Intensive Care Unit Discipline: RN Start Date: 03/30/2026 Duration: 13 weeks 36 hours per week Shift: 12 hours, days Employment Type: Travel Assignment Overview Shift: Days, 3x12hrs Hours: 36 hrs/wk Start Date: Mar 30, 2026 Length: 13 weeks Openings: 1 Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a mixed ICU position in Rapid City, SD, requiring a minimum of 1.5–2 years of ICU experience, Epic proficiency, and TNCC certification. Details Mixed ICU unit encompassing MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU within a 39-bed facility Complex ICU patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma diagnoses such as ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, and multiple system trauma — heavy trauma population Cardiac experience is preferred, particularly CABG/TAVR 24–48 hrs post-op, though not required for travelers Patient ratios are 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3 (rare), determined by acuity Charting system: Epic (required); Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter), Omnicell 12-hour day shifts, 36 hours per week Every other weekend rotation No on-call requirements Floating is uncommon but possible to any adult floor including Med/Surg or Tele at a 1:4 ratio when overstaffed Requirements Active RN license — SD license or Compact license valid in South Dakota required Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (TNCC is required and must be obtained prior to start) Minimum 1.5–2 years of ICU experience (excluding travel experience); candidates with 1.5 years ICU experience plus significant RN experience outside ICU may be considered Epic EMR experience required Proficiency with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics; hemodynamic line management; proning; ventilator management; and telemetry monitoring Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred Strong critical thinking and assessment skills; ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity team environment At least one prior travel assignment required — first-time travelers will not be considered Two professional references dated within the past year are required for consideration DOB and SSN are required for consideration Additional Information Candidates must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligible Former permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning in a traveler capacity Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs plus a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, a resource nurse (staffing dependent), 24/7 respiratory therapy, phlebotomy (peripheral draws only), and a robust physician team (3 intensivists on days, 2 on nights, plus an APP on nights) Orientation consists of a hospital orientation session, one 12-hour shift, and one 8-hour shift on the ICU No RTO approved during holidays or during the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August) Time off requests of up to 7 days may be considered, provided the assignment is extended to complete a full 13-week contract Required scrub color: navy Free parking is available on-site American Traveler Job ID P-676502.
