Details Acute care hospital setting on an 18-bed Medical-Surgical unit (all private rooms except one semi-private) General medical patient population with a variety of diagnoses Nurse-to-patient ratios of 4-5:1 on days and 5-6:1 on nights Two PCTs per shift supporting the unit at a ratio of approximately 9:1 when the unit is full RNs are required to titrate Heparin drips Patients may have oxygen requirements up to 6L NC, as well as stable BiPAP/CPAP Telemetry patients are monitored remotely via a house-wide telemetry department; primary unit equipment is Philips 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a) Every other weekend required (Fri/Sat nights) Holiday rotation per unit policy No on-call requirement Travel RNs are first to float to other units as needed Epic EMR (experience preferred) Requirements Active IL RN license required; must be active at time of consideration (pending licenses not accepted) Current BLS certification (AHA) required; must be active at time of consideration ACLS preferred for those interested in Charge RN responsibilities Minimum 1 year of hospital Med/Surg or acute care experience Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire Must be able to pass a drug screen; facility is a drug-free campus Additional Information Orientation consists of one 12-hour shift with a unit preceptor 24/7 Charge RN coverage is in place; charge nurses may carry a patient assignment at times House supervisor available 24/7, along with in-house hospitalist/intensivist, RT, and pharmacy staff All medications are prepared by pharmacy staff; RNs are expected to attempt IV starts and use unit resources if unsuccessful; a dedicated inpatient phlebotomy team handles blood draws A unit clerk (PCL) provides 24-hour coverage on the unit Travelers may collaborate with unit leadership on additional scheduling preferences Any color scrubs are acceptable; staff must provide their own (no pediatric-themed scrubs) Local candidates are welcome to apply; candidates with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility may be eligible for a local pay rate American Traveler Job ID P-686637.
