Details 29-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit within a 885-bed Level 1 Trauma academic medical center General medicine patient population including diabetes, GI, respiratory, renal, and wound care cases Common procedures include chest tube and trach management, PIV starts, drain and tube care, PCA pumps, and lab draws Drip management includes Amiodarone, Fentanyl PCA, Ketamine PCA, Dilaudid PCA, and Heparin Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6; CNA-to-patient ratio of 1:9-10 Telemetry monitoring via centralized telemetry EMR: Epic; IV pump: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell 12-hour day shifts (0630–1900) or night shifts (1830–0630), 3 days per week Every other weekend rotation required No on-call responsibilities Floating required to other Med/Surg units 6-week scheduling cycle with manager approval required for RTO Requirements Active NC or compact RN license currently in hand Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry (MST) experience required, with most recent experience within the last year Experience reading and interpreting telemetry strips required Proficiency with chest tubes, trachs, PIV starts, drains and tubes, and PCA pumps required Experience with Epic EMR Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills with ability to work collaboratively Ability to tolerate moderate to high stress levels Minimum 1 professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN dated within the past year required for consideration Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration Additional Information Provide direct and indirect patient care to general medicine patients, including telemetry monitoring, drip management, and procedures such as chest tube and trach care Phlebotomy is a shared responsibility between RN and phlebotomy team Department support includes CNAs, a receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, rapid response team, RT 24/7, hospitalist 24/7, and intensivist 24/7 Orientation includes NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation A clinical interview is required Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays Royal blue scrubs required Free employee parking available Unit culture is described as patient-centered, highly reliable, and team-oriented First-time travelers may be considered with a strong Med/Surg Telemetry background Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates are not accepted Candidates who have worked a permanent position at an Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being considered American Traveler Job ID P-684316.
