Details Float Pool position — will be assigned a permanent home unit on the first day of orientation, with floating to like units (MS-to-MS, MS-to-ICU tasks, MS-to-ER holds, etc.) Potential home units include: 6 North Trauma Surgical (23 beds), 5 South Neuroscience (33 beds), 5 North Med/Surg Oncology (39 beds), 4 South Clinical Decision Unit (18 beds), 3 South Orthopedics (20 beds), and 3 North MS/Ortho/Urology (23 beds) Patient types vary by unit and include general surgery, vascular, neuro (CVA, TBI, seizure, craniotomy, spinal fusion), oncology, palliative care, ETOH withdrawal, orthopedic/spine, urology, and general Med/Surg conditions (COPD, CHF, sepsis, renal failure, etc.) Patient ratios are generally 1:5–6 depending on unit Telemetry is monitored by Telemetry Techs; RNs are required to interpret and confirm strip readings every 4 hours EMR: Cerner (preferred) Equipment includes Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors Shifts: 7a–7p and 7p–7a (12-hour shifts) Scheduling is managed on a 4-week cycle via Smart Square; no self-scheduling Weekend rotation: every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month No on-call requirements Requirements Active AL RN license or compact RN license required (can submit pending, but ETA required) Current certifications required: BLS and NIHSS Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg and/or ICU experience required Cerner or Epic EMR experience required; Cerner is required if experience is strictly ICU-based Skills vary by unit but may include: wound care, chest tubes, NGT, IV starts, blood draws from central lines, trach care, PEG tubes, ostomy/colostomy care, PCA pumps, wound vacs, CVL dressing changes, and foley care Trauma/surgical experience (at least 1 year) required if placed on 6 North Trauma Surgical Chemo administration certification highly preferred if placed on 5 North Med/Surg Oncology Telemetry experience is a plus — candidates with tele experience should detail it during the application process Candidates must reside more than 60 miles from the facility to be eligible A reference from a charge nurse or above from the past 12 months is required for consideration DOB (day and month) and full SSN are required for consideration Copies of all required certifications must be provided for consideration Additional Information This is a Level II Trauma Center with a Level III NICU and Primary Stroke Center designation Unit support includes CNAs (1:6 ratio for VS, ADLs, glucose checks), charge nurses (who rarely take assignments), HUC/receptionist, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, hospitalist, and telemetry monitoring techs Orientation for travelers new to the facility consists of 24 hours of classroom time followed by 24 hours on the unit; orientation for returning travelers who have been gone 1 years follows the same structure Former permanent staff must have been separated for at least 6 months (from last shift worked) before being eligible to return as a traveler Holiday coverage requires working one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy; specific holiday assignments are not guaranteed prior to arrival RTO during the following blackout periods requires manager approval: MLK Day, Valentine's Day week, entire month of March, Easter weekend, Mother's Day weekend, Memorial Day week, Father's Day weekend, Fourth of July, Labor Day weekend, Halloween week, Thanksgiving week, and Christmas/New Year's Scrub color: any color permitted Parking is available in the parking deck on levels 2–4 only First-time travelers are welcome to apply, provided they meet the minimum experience requirements Interviews are conducted via SimpliFi and are required — this facility does not use auto-offers American Traveler Job ID P-685210.
