Job Description & Requirements Specialty: Trauma ICU Discipline: RN Start Date: 04/13/2026 Duration: 13 weeks 36 hours per week Shift: 12 hours, nights Employment Type: Travel Assignment Overview Shift: Nights, 3x12hrs Hours: 36 hrs/wk Start Date: Apr 13, 2026 Length: 13 weeks Openings: 1 Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Trauma ICU position at a Level 1 trauma center, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience and active ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications. Details 18-bed Trauma ICU in an acute care hospital setting, designated as a Level 1 trauma center Patient population includes adults and pediatric patients (15 years) with complex diagnoses including trauma injuries, sepsis, stroke, ARDS, MODS, COPD, and cardiac arrest Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:1-2 (ICU) and 1:4 (PCU) RNs are required to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics Specialty equipment in use includes CVPs, IABP, Impella, A-lines, Swans, EV-1000, ICP monitoring, Zoll-Thermoguard, and Bell Mont rapid transfuser — training provided in real time for select devices Respiratory support ranges from nasal cannula to mechanical ventilation Draeger heart monitoring with centralized telemetry; RNs must be able to independently read and interpret cardiac rhythms — no monitor techs on unit EMR: Epic 12-hour night shifts (1830–0630) Self-scheduling available, managed by the unit manager based on unit needs 4 weekend shifts required per 6-week scheduling period Floating required to inpatient units, excluding Maternity/NICU Requirements Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license required — pending licenses are not accepted Active certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — pending certifications are not accepted Minimum 2 years of ICU nursing experience required Level 1 trauma center experience strongly applicable given unit acuity Epic EMR experience beneficial given unit complexity Driver's license required — used to verify permanent residence is at least 50 miles from the facility Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire First-time travelers will not be considered for this position Additional Information Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility — driver's license is used to verify permanent address Candidates who are currently or have been within the past year directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, are not eligible — candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered Unit orientation consists of 2 shifts, followed by a pass/fail open-book exam during the Friday of orientation week; a minimum score of 90% is required to pass — failure results in contract termination A charge nurse is present on every shift; nurse aides/patient care techs are available at a 1:18 ratio This is a fast-paced, critically ill environment — critical thinking, a positive attitude, and strong teamwork are key attributes for success Navy blue scrubs required Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas — refusal to comply will result to contract termination Manager interview required for this position RTO requests must be submitted upfront and are limited to 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved American Traveler Job ID P-684552.
