Details 63-bed Surgical Acute unit (49 private rooms, 9 observation beds) in an acute care hospital setting Patient population includes post-op surgical, trauma, overflow medical cases requiring dressing changes, wound care, IV therapy, pain management, drain management, NG tubes, central lines, and TPN Nurse-to-patient ratios: 4–5 patients/RN on days; 5–6 patients/RN on nights PCTs are available on the unit — days: 7–10 patients/PCT; nights: 10–15 patients/PCT — assisting with vitals, accuchecks, ADLs, turning, and ambulation Some patients are on telemetry monitored via Philips monitors with dedicated central station monitor techs; bedside RNs are not required to read strips Heparin drips are used; RNs are not required to titrate drips CPAP and high-flow oxygen used on unit; RTs manage nebulizers, RNs manage inhalers and can place patients on CPAP — no ventilators on this unit Night shift: 1930–0730 (12-hour shifts) Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday) No call or standby requirement Travelers are first to float and will float to units with the same level of experience Block scheduling will be considered but must be approved at the time of contract; travelers do not self-schedule EMR: Epic Requirements Active IL RN license required; pending licenses will not be accepted Current BLS certification (AHA) required; must be active — pending certifications not accepted Minimum 1 year of RN experience required Post-op patient care experience required Strong critical thinking skills, willingness to ask for help, good bedside manner, and team-oriented approach 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire Must be able to pass a drug screen; facility is a drug-free campus Additional Information Orientation consists of 2 preceptor shifts plus one 12-hour shift covering Epic and professional orientation with the unit educator Two pre-assigned charge RNs per shift who do not take a patient assignment; house supervisor available 24/7 Holiday rotation required every other holiday Any color scrubs are acceptable Local candidates are welcome to apply; candidates with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility are subject to a local pay rate COVID vaccination is not required for this position American Traveler Job ID P-684863.
