Job Description & Requirements Specialty: Med Surg / Telemetry Discipline: RN Start Date: 04/27/2026 Duration: 13 weeks 36 hours per week Shift: 12 hours, nights Employment Type: Travel Assignment Overview Shift: Nights, 3x12hrs Hours: 36 hrs/wk Start Date: Apr 27, 2026 Length: 13 weeks Openings: 1 Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at a Level 1 Trauma Academic Medical Center in North Carolina, requiring at least 2 years of Med/Surg Tele experience and night shift availability. Details 12-hour night shifts with a 0700 start time, 36 hours per week 24-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit within a 885-bed Level 1 Trauma Academic Medical Center Patient population includes general medicine diagnoses such as diabetes, GI conditions, respiratory illness, renal conditions, and wound care Procedures performed include chest tube and trach management, PIV starts, drain and tube management, and PCA pump management Drip management includes Amiodarone, Fentanyl PCA, Ketamine PCA, Dilaudid PCA, and Heparin RN-to-patient ratio of 5–6:1; CNA ratio of 8:1 Lab draws are required as part of nursing duties EMR: Epic; IV pump: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell Centralized telemetry monitoring with dedicated telemetry tech support Every other weekend rotation required Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays Floating required to other Med/Surg units Requirements Active RN license — GA or Compact license required Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry (MST) experience required Most recent experience must be within the last year Experience reading and interpreting telemetry strips required Proficiency with chest tubes, trachs, PCA pumps, and IV/drain management required Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment and tolerate moderate to high stress levels Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN Additional Information First-time travelers may be considered, provided they have a strong Med/Surg Telemetry background Candidates who have worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible Unit support includes CNAs, a receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, phlebotomy, Rapid Response Team, Respiratory Therapy (24/7), Hospitalist (24/7), and Intensivist (24/7) Orientation includes facility-wide new employee orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation Royal blue scrubs required Free employee parking available on-site Unit culture is described as patient-centered, highly reliable, and team-oriented This is a GA facility — no radius rule applies and local candidates are accepted at the same rate American Traveler Job ID P-680078.
