Details 40-bed cardiac surgery stepdown unit located in the Heart Tower of a large regional hospital in Asheville, NC Primary patient population includes CV surgery and vascular surgery patients (CABG, AVR, MVR, TAVR, lobectomy, thoracotomy, AAA repair, fem-pop bypass, carotid endarterectomies) as well as overflow medical cardiology patients with diagnoses such as heart failure, DKA, chest pain, sepsis, and heart block Patient ratio is 1:5 RN to patient; PCT ratio is 1:13 Night shift schedule: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM Minimum of 6 weekend shifts (Saturday/Sunday) required per 6-week schedule period No on-call responsibilities Floating required to any stepdown unit (1:5), med-surg unit (1:6–7), or ER inpatient holding area (1:6) Equipment used includes Baxter IV pumps, CADD epidural pumps, and various lifts EMR: Cerner (experience preferred) Requirements Active NC or compact RN license required Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA or ARC accepted; must not expire within the first 30 days of assignment) Minimum 2 years of recent RN clinical experience in a stepdown or progressive care setting Stepdown experience required Telemetry experience required US SSN and DOB required for consideration — no exceptions One professional reference required (two required for candidates from Florida or Missouri) Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — no local candidates considered Additional Information Procedures performed on the unit include epidural management, chest tube management, tube feedings, IV glucommander, and cardiac drip management (phenylephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, milrinone, cardizem, amiodarone, insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, and ketamine) Prior CV surgery and vascular surgery population experience (open heart, TAVR, lobectomy, AAA repair, fem-pop bypass) within the past year is preferred CVICU experience is preferred Unit staffing on nights includes a charge RN, 13 RNs, 4 PCTs, and 0.33 HUC Flexibility to work holidays is expected Dress code: all navy, white tops with navy bottoms, or all white scrubs No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months This is a Level II trauma center and comprehensive stroke center serving as the region's primary referral hospital 13-week contract American Traveler Job ID P-675214.
