Details 40-bed Cardiovascular Progressive Care Unit (CVPC) located in the E Heart Tower of a large 815-bed hospital in Asheville, NC Primary patient population includes CV surgery and vascular surgery patients (open heart surgery: CABG, AVR, MVR, Bentall, TAVR), thoracic lung surgery (lobectomy, thoracotomy), esophagogastrectomy, AAA repair, fem-pop bypass, and carotid endarterectomies Overflow medical cardiology patients with diagnoses including heart failure, DKA, chest pain, sepsis, heart block, and more are also admitted to the unit Patient ratio is 1:5 RN to patient; PCT ratio is 1:13 Common procedures include epidural management, chest tube management, tube feedings, IV Glucommander, and cardiac drip management (phenylephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, milrinone, Cardizem, amiodarone, insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, ketamine) Equipment used includes Baxter IV pumps and CADD epidural pumps EMR system is Cerner Day shift schedule: 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM (12-hour shifts) Minimum of 6 weekend shifts (Saturday/Sunday) required per 6-week scheduling period Floating required to any stepdown unit (1:5 ratio), med-surg unit (1:6–7 ratio), or ER inpatient holding area (1:6 ratio) No on-call requirements Requirements Active NC or Compact RN license required Current BLS and ACLS certifications required (AHA or ARC accepted; certifications must not expire within the first 30 days of the assignment start) Minimum 2 years of RN clinical experience required Stepdown experience is required Telemetry experience is required US Social Security Number and date of birth required for consideration Professional reference required (candidates from Florida or Missouri must provide two references) No employment gaps of 90 days or more within the past 12 months Additional Information Prior experience with CV surgery and vascular surgery patient populations (open heart, TAVR, lobectomy, AAA repair, fem-pop bypass) within the past year is preferred CVICU experience is a plus Unit staff includes a charge RN, RNs, PCTs, and HUC support on both day and night shifts Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not eligible Holiday coverage flexibility is expected Scrub color requirements: all navy, white tops with navy bottoms, or all white The ideal candidate is a team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment and demonstrates flexibility This facility has earned Magnet® Designation, an 'A' Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, and has been recognized as one of America's 50 Best Hospitals by Healthgrades The hospital serves as the region's only Level II trauma center, comprehensive stroke center, and houses the only open heart and interventional cardiology program in the region American Traveler Job ID P-675215.
