Job Description & Requirements Specialty: PACU - Post Anesthesia Care Discipline: RN Duration: 13 weeks 36 hours per week Shift: 12 hours Employment Type: Travel Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Registered Nurse (RN) Overview The Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Registered Nurse (RN) is a highly skilled nursing professional responsible for providing specialized care to patients recovering from anesthesia following surgical, diagnostic, or therapeutic procedures. The PACU RN utilizes strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and rapid assessment skills to monitor patients during the immediate postoperative period. This role requires the ability to respond quickly to changes in patient condition while collaborating closely with anesthesia providers, surgeons, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centered care. Essential Duties and Responsibilities · Assess and monitor patients recovering from general, regional, and local anesthesia · Perform comprehensive postoperative assessments, including airway, respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological, and pain status · Administer medications, IV fluids, blood products, and treatments as prescribed · Manage airways, oxygen therapy, and advanced monitoring equipment · Identify and respond promptly to complications such as respiratory distress, bleeding, hemodynamic instability, nausea, or changes in level of consciousness · Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and interdisciplinary team members to optimize patient recovery · Provide postoperative pain management and comfort measures · Monitor surgical sites, drains, and wound dressings · Educate patients and families regarding postoperative expectations, pain control, and discharge instructions · Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) · Adhere to infection control, safety, and quality standards · Participate in emergency situations including rapid response and code events · Advocate for patient safety, rights, and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations Minimum Requirements · Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice · Minimum of one year of professional nursing experience; PACU, ICU, or critical care experience preferred · Completion of Amergis’ Competency Program (if applicable) · Current BLS and ACLS certifications (PALS may be required based on patient population) · Completion of required TB screening and health clearance per contract or regulatory guidelines · Compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations · Successful completion of new hire orientation and PACU training · Demonstrated understanding of patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations · Strong verbal and written communication skills in English · Basic computer proficiency · Must be at least 18 years of age Benefits · Competitive compensation with weekly paychecks · Health, dental, vision, and life insurance · 401(k) savings plan · Awards and recognition programs Interested in Learning More About Pay Rates?
