Job Description & Requirements Specialty: Neuro ICU Discipline: RN Start Date: 04/06/2026 Duration: 13 weeks 36 hours per week Shift: 12 hours, nights Employment Type: Travel Registered Nurse – Neuro ICU – Madison, WI Contract Duration: 13 Weeks (Starts 04/06/2026) Shift: Night Shift (19:00 – 07:30) | 3x12-Hour Shifts Job Summary: University Hospital, Wisconsin’s 1 ranked hospital and a Magnet®-designated Comprehensive Stroke Center , is seeking a high-acuity Neuroscience ICU RN . This 18-bed unit is a hub for specialized critical care, managing patients with complex neurological pathologies including subarachnoid hemorrhages, traumatic brain injuries (TBI), and post-thrombectomy recovery. You will be expected to provide expert level care involving advanced intracranial monitoring and specialized neurological interventions. Key Responsibilities Intracranial Management: Expertly manage External Ventricular Drains (EVD) and ICP monitoring systems (e.g., CereLink). Post-Surgical Care: Manage high-acuity patients following craniotomies , aneurysm clippings, coilings, and brain tumor resections. Stroke & Hemorrhage: Provide interventions for ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, including post-tPA and post-thrombectomy monitoring. Advanced Monitoring: Utilize FloTrac/Vigileo for hemodynamic assessment and manage patients on continuous IV sedation, paralytics, and titrated vasoactive drips. Neurological Protocols: Implement therapeutic hypothermia protocols (e.g., Arctic Sun ) for neuro-protection. Crisis Management: Act as a lead responder for status epilepticus and acute neurological deterioration within a Level 1 Trauma environment. Requirements & Qualifications Experience: * Minimum 2 years of acute care experience within the last 3 years. Hardstop Requirement: Verifiable experience with Craniotomies and EVDs . Travel Experience: Must have successfully completed at least one prior 13-week travel assignment. Technical Testing: Must pass a mandatory Telemetry Exam prior to start (100% identification of V-fib, V-tach, and Asystole). EMR: Epic experience is required (preferred within the last 12 months). Licensure: Active Wisconsin or Compact RN License must be in hand at submittal. Certifications: BLS & ACLS (AHA Only) are required. Unit & Facility Details Unit: 18-bed Neuroscience ICU (B4/4). Patient Ratio: 1:2 (Days, Nights, and Weekends). Location: Madison, WI 53792. Floating: Travelers float first and may be reassigned to other critical care or step-down units based on organizational need. Weekends: Every other weekend requirement. Logistics Notes Parking: Permit required through Hospital Transportation; onsite parking is limited and requires advanced coordination.
