Job Description & Requirements Specialty: Med Surg Discipline: RN Start Date: 03/30/2026 Duration: 13 weeks 36 hours per week Shift: 12 hours, days Employment Type: Travel Medical Surgical Travel Nurse – Unit Overview General Job Duties Provide Medical-Surgical nursing care to adult and occasional pediatric patients. Perform head-to-toe assessments and monitor patient condition. Obtain and record vital signs . Administer all types of medications including IV medications. Start and manage IV lines . Perform blood product administration . Conduct Point-of-Care (POC) testing . Implement and monitor isolation precautions when required. Coordinate patient care and communicate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team. Types of Procedures Required Medication administration (oral, IV, IM, subcutaneous) IV insertion and maintenance Blood transfusions Head-to-toe physical assessments Point-of-care testing Monitoring and responding to telemetry alerts Patient education and discharge planning Equipment Utilized in the Unit Telemetry monitors Philips vital signs machines Vein viewers for IV placement Bladder scanner Point-of-care testing equipment Standard medical-surgical supplies MEDITECH Electronic Health Record charting system Required Skills & Experience Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience Strong clinical assessment skills IV therapy and medication administration Ability to manage multiple patients simultaneously Familiarity with electronic health record documentation Required Licenses & Certifications Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – Preferred but not mandatory Floating Requirements Nurses may float between: Adult Medical Unit Adult Surgical Unit Units include 2N and 3N floors . Unit Bed Capacity 2N Unit: 23 Surgical Beds 3N Unit: 19 Adult Beds 5 Pediatric Beds Nurse-to-Patient Ratio 5 patients per RN Support staff includes: Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) They assist with: Vital signs Point-of-care testing Activities of daily living Ambulation/walking Dress Code Any color scrubs allowed (no denim/jean material) Uniform must be clean and professional Closed-toe and closed-heel shoes required Only earrings allowed (no other facial piercings) Long hair must be pulled back away from the face Training & Orientation HR orientation will cover organizational policies and required onboarding.
