Details Acute care Med/Surg unit with 48 beds Common patient diagnoses include pneumonia, UTI, altered mental status, GI bleed, alcohol withdrawal, and falls/weakness Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:5–7 on days and 1:6–8 on nights PCT/CNA support is available with an average ratio of 1:10–12; duties include vitals, BGMs, EKGs, heart monitor application, bathing, feeding, toileting, and turning/positioning Charge nurses are present on each shift; day shift charges may carry a patient assignment Respiratory therapy manages breathing treatments, ABGs, BiPAP, CPAP, and high-flow O2 — RNs are responsible for monitoring only A monitor tech on Level 5 reads and monitors telemetry for all patients and notifies nursing staff as needed; RNs are not expected to independently read or interpret tele strips RNs are required to titrate drips including heparin, bumex, and lasix; cardiac drip titration is not required Charting is performed in Cerner 12-hour day/night rotating shifts (7a–7p / 7p–7a) Every other weekend required No call or standby requirement Floating may be required to other Med/Surg, Med/Surg-Tele, or IMC units for lower acuity patients 13-week contract Requirements Active WV or compact RN license required Current BLS certification required Minimum 1 year of RN experience required BSN is not required Cerner EMR experience preferred Copy of an unexpired driver's license required for consideration 2 professional references required (1 supervisor, 1 peer or additional supervisor); if the candidate held a permanent position in the last 12 months, one supervisor reference must be from that employer Skills checklist completed within the past year required for consideration Copies of all current certifications required for consideration Additional Information First-time travelers are welcome to apply Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a minimum 2-year break before reapplying Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year before taking a 2-year break Orientation consists of 1 day with an educator/computer system training and 1 day with a preceptor No self-scheduling or block scheduling; the manager creates the schedule and will work with staff on requested time off (RTO); travelers are expected to be flexible and help fill gaps in the permanent schedule RNs may be asked to participate in holiday rotation RN scrub color is navy blue Candidates may only be submitted to one WVU facility at a time American Traveler Job ID P-684716.
