Details Acute care setting in a Med Surg ICU at a Level I Trauma Center serving as a primary tertiary hospital for the system 34-bed unit caring for adult and pediatric patients (15 years old) with diagnoses including respiratory failure, ARDS, MODS, sepsis, stroke, cardiogenic shock, renal failure, GI bleeds, and cancer-specific surgeries Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:1–2 (ICU), 1:4–5 (PCU), and 1:5–6 (MS) RNs are required to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics Procedures and equipment include CVPs, A-lines, Swans, EV-1000, ICP monitoring, CRRT, Impella, balloon pump, Zoll Thermoguard, and Bell Mont rapid transfuser — training available on these in real time Respiratory therapy equipment ranges from nasal cannula to ventilators; RNs are expected to troubleshoot Draeger heart monitoring with centralized telemetry; no monitor techs on unit — RNs must independently read and interpret telemetry strips Charting system: Epic 12-hour night shifts (18:30–06:30) Schedule is manager-assigned based on unit needs Every other weekend required Holiday coverage required for 2 out of 3 major holidays Floating required to all inpatient units, excluding Maternity/NICU Nurse aides/patient care techs available at a 1:18 ratio Charge nurse is present each shift and responds to RRTs and codes but does not take a patient assignment Requirements Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license required — pending licenses are not accepted Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — pending certifications are not accepted Ability to independently read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility (driver's license used to verify permanent address) Candidates may not be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) directly by any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity Driver's license required for consideration 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire Additional Information Fast-paced unit with volume that flexes due to its role as the system's primary tertiary hospital Collaborative team environment working alongside attendings, fellows, and residents to deliver high-quality care Unit-specific orientation consists of 2 shifts, followed by a pass/fail open-book skills exam on the Friday of orientation week — a score of 90% or higher is required to pass Navy blue scrubs required Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments RTO requests of 7 days or fewer per 13-week contract must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved Candidates who were previously employed PRN through outside staffing firms at CommonSpirit facilities may be considered American Traveler Job ID P-679212.
