Details Acute care hospital ICU setting with a Critical Care service line that includes a 12-bed CVICU, 8-bed COVID ICU, 8-bed MS ICU, and a 16-bed PCU (up to 20 with double occupancy) Patient population includes COVID (manual proning), low-level neuro, EVD, DKA, sepsis, ARF, CRRT, rhabdomyolysis, post-MI, detox, chest tubes, art lines, Swan-Ganz catheters, STEMI, PCI, CEA, IABP, TAVR, cardiac surgical, VAD devices, and post open heart surgery patients Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:1–2 in the ICU based on acuity/staffing; 1:3–4 in the PCU RNs are required to titrate drips, including pressors (levophed), paralytics, sedation (propofol), anti-arrhythmics, dopamine, heparin, and argatroban RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting their own telemetry strips using Nihon Kohden monitors (in-room and at nurses' station) Respiratory therapy equipment in use includes ventilators, BiPAP, CPAP, HFNC, Vapotherm, and Glidescopes (used during intubation) Charting is performed in Cerner EMR 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a), with schedules made 4 weeks in advance; some self-scheduling is available but subject to manager review Two weekend shifts per pay period are required; weekend nights include Friday, Saturday, and/or Sunday nights Travelers are first to float and may be assigned to PCU, MST, or the East Campus ICU/PCU per staff rotation needs On-call may occur during low-census situations, approximately once every 6 weeks; no regularly scheduled call requirement 13-week contract Requirements Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses are not accepted Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications are not accepted Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required Strong EKG/dysrhythmia interpretation skills required Experience with ventilator troubleshooting and weaning required Ability to interpret ABGs required Experience with critical care drips and titration required IABP and Prismaflex CRRT experience preferred Skills in at least 3–4 of the following are preferred: EVD management, chest tubes, arterial lines, Swan-Ganz catheters Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility (based on driver's license address) to be eligible Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire A valid driver's license is required for consideration Additional Information Candidates must take and pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam with a score of at least 80% within two attempts before an offer can be confirmed; failure to pass within two attempts results in a 6-month DNU status at CommonSpirit facilities in Arizona and the Sacramento, CA region A sterile technique competency test (Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes) is administered on the first day of orientation; failure of the second attempt also results in a 6-month DNU status Orientation consists of 8 hours of general hospital orientation, one 12-hour precepted shift on the unit, and a second 12-hour shift with a designated buddy; additional orientation may be provided for specialized skills such as open heart surgery or CRRT Travelers with open heart surgery experience may be assigned fresh post-operative open heart patients if skills are verified Intensivists are in house 24/7 with NP supplementation; respiratory therapy covers all areas but is not dedicated to the ICU around the clock Charge nurses typically do not take assignments except as a last resort; two charge nurses cover the ICU and PCU and respond to rapid response and code blue calls Holiday coverage is required; travelers are expected to cover one winter holiday and the eve of another holiday Any color professional scrubs are acceptable; camouflage scrubs are not permitted RTO of less than 7 days is required; holiday requests are not permitted for this position American Traveler Job ID P-685281.
