Job Description & Requirements Specialty: Med Surg / Telemetry Discipline: RN Start Date: 03/30/2026 Duration: 13 weeks 36 hours per week Shift: 12 hours, nights Employment Type: Travel Assignment Overview Shift: Nights, 3x12hrs Hours: 36 hrs/wk Start Date: Mar 30, 2026 Length: 13 weeks Openings: 1 Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital in Macon, GA, requiring a minimum of 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience and GA or Compact RN license. Details 16-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit within a 637-bed Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital also designated as a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center Common diagnoses include chest pain, syncope, abdominal pain, cellulitis, COPD exacerbation, heart failure observation, dehydration, hypertension, diabetes, simple trauma, MVC, and fall Unit also receives patients boarding from the ER awaiting inpatient admission beds, contributing to high patient turnover Patient ratio is 1:4–6 12-hour night shifts, 7P–7A, 36 hours per week Weekend rotation requires working 5–6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule Holiday coverage required: one shift for Thanksgiving Day or the day after, 12/24 or 12/25, and 12/31 or 1/1 Floating required to all adult Med/Surg and Telemetry units within the hospital No on-call or call-back requirements EMR: Epic (experience required) Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, Philips monitors, VS3 vital sign monitors, Glucommander, PCA pain management systems, bladder scanners, and portable oxygen systems Central Telemetry Unit provides remote cardiac monitoring support Requirements Active GA or Compact RN license required Associate's degree in Nursing (ADN) minimum Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience required Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required Proficiency in trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, Glucommander, insulin drips, heparin drips, and drips titrated to HR Strong cardiac monitoring and rhythm interpretation skills IV insertion and maintenance skills required At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration Additional Information Responsibilities include clinical assessment, care coordination with interdisciplinary teams, discharge planning, and patient education Unit support includes CNAs, a unit secretary (on-unit 7A–11P, house-wide after), a charge nurse, a PICC team, discharge nurses, a resource float team, central telemetry techs, and 24/7 coverage from RT, Hospitalist, and Intensivist Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) competency test is completed during onboarding Orientation consists of 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules followed by 2 days of departmental orientation RTO requests require manager approval First-time travelers are welcome to apply Candidates who have previously worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible Local candidates are accepted; no radius rule applies — the same rate applies for local travelers in GA RN scrub color is navy blue Free parking is available on campus American Traveler Job ID P-682913.
