Details Work in a 30-bed cardiac telemetry unit (7 Heart) within a 637-licensed-bed Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital Patient population includes those with heart failure, A-fib, acute/chronic kidney disease, respiratory failure, COPD, asthma, NSTEMI, sepsis, and diabetes, as well as post-op and post-cardiac procedure patients RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4–6; supported by LPNs (1:4–6) and 2–3 CNAs per shift Skilled procedures include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucommander, insulin drips, heparin drips, cardiac telemetry interpretation, central line management, wound care, groin management, and Foley care EMR: Epic (experience required); IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Pyxis; monitors: Philips Unit equipment includes VS3 vital sign monitors, portable Dynamap monitors, bladder scanners, portable oxygen, external fixators, chest tubes, JP/Hemovac drains, glucommander, PCA pumps, and suction machines 12-hour day shifts, 7a–7p, with 36 hours per week; night shift (7p–7a) scheduling is also possible Weekend rotation: 6 shifts per 6-week schedule No on-call or call-back requirements Floating required to all adult med/surg and telemetry units within the facility Requirements Active RN license — GA state or compact license required Current BLS certification required; ACLS preferred Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) competency — candidates must pass an EKG competency exam as part of compliance Medical-Surgical nursing national certification preferred but not required Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year Experience in a Level 1 Trauma and/or teaching hospital setting strongly preferred Proficiency with Epic EMR required Strong cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation skills required Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration Additional Information CNAs assist with vital signs, glucose checks, baths, feeding, ambulation, turning, hourly rounding, and patient transport; a dedicated hospital transport team is available Unit secretary coverage available 7a–11p; house-wide call secretary available overnight Charge nurse, resource nurses, and discharge nurses are available for support; resource team floats to all units Telemetry is monitored via a Central Telemetry Unit Respiratory therapy, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage available 24/7 PICC team available; nurses are responsible for draws from central venous lines Orientation consists of 1 day of general facility orientation with educational modules plus 2 days of departmental orientation Holiday coverage required — travelers are expected to work 75% of holidays, including one shift of each major holiday (Thanksgiving or day after, 12/24 or 12/25, and 12/31 or 1/1) RTO requests require manager approval Navy scrubs required for RNs First-time travelers are welcome to apply Must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year following permanent employment before being eligible No radius rule — local candidates in GA are accepted at the same rate as traveling candidates American Traveler Job ID P-684327.
