Details ICU Stepdown unit within a hospital setting, functioning more like an ICU in acuity Patient population includes post-rapid response, respiratory distress, unstable hemodynamics, withdrawal, GI bleeds, pre/post-op GYN/GU/GI/thoracotomy/neuro/ortho surgeries, and pre/post OB with complications (Pitocin); patient ages range from adolescent to geriatric Unit capacity of 20 beds (ADC: 18); nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3-4 Vasoactive drips used on unit include Cardizem, Nitro, Precedex, Cardene, Levophed, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Neo; unit policy limits patients to one pressor drip (additional pressors require ICU transfer) Specialized equipment includes bedside telemetry monitors with remote backup, A-lines, BiPAP, chest tubes, and trachs; no ventilators on unit EMR: Epic; medication dispensing via Pyxis Night shifts (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM), 3x12-hour shifts per week; 36 or 48 hours per week available Every other weekend required Floating required as needed to a sister ICCU unit Schedule is created by the nurse manager; block scheduling is not available Requirements Active NC or compact RN license required Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Minimum 2 years of RN experience required Strong vasoactive drip titration and arterial line experience required Required skills include: telemetry interpretation and dysrhythmia management, IV insulin protocols, blood product administration, central/peripheral/PICC line care, heparin protocols, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), BiPAP/CPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), tracheostomy management, isolation precautions, and use of rapid response teams Experience with IV starts and conscious sedation required Must be able to recognize and treat dysrhythmias Must pass EKG testing prior to start Additional Information First-time travelers are welcome to apply Local candidates are accepted Hospital orientation is held during week one; attendance is required each day Scrub colors: navy, white, or a combination of both RTO requests after booking are not permitted; call-offs or additional RTO may result in contract cancellation American Traveler Job ID P-679869.
