Details Float position covering all ICU and PCU units within an acute care teaching hospital setting Large, Level I Trauma Center (Adult & Pediatric) with Magnet designation for nursing excellence ICU patient ratio averages 2:1; PCU patient ratio averages 5:1 Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM Floating is re-evaluated every 4 hours, with potential to float 2–3 times per shift Weekend requirement: every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block One holiday shift required per 13-week contract Epic EMR experience required Clinical skills required include arterial line management, central/PICC line care, blood product administration, BiPAP/CPAP management, ventilated patient care, continuous IV sedation, titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, surgical wound care with drains or wound vacs, and IV insulin protocol adherence Requirements Active Virginia state RN license or Compact RN license required; pending license accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS Minimum ICU experience required; 2 years of experience preferred Prior experience at a large Level I or Level II facility required Epic EMR experience required PDF copies of driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration Two professional references required for consideration Additional Information Candidates must be comfortable working across all ICU and PCU units, as floating is a regular expectation of this role The hospital is affiliated with the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and is certified as an Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center All RTO, block scheduling, and special scheduling requests must be submitted at the time of application Local candidates are accepted for this position First-time travelers are welcome to apply American Traveler Job ID P-686950.
