Details Float Pool position — travelers are assigned a home unit on the first day of orientation and may float to like units (e.g., MS-to-MS, MS-to-ICU tasks, MS-to-ER/MS holds) Potential home units include: 6 North Trauma Surgical, 5 South Neuroscience, 5 North Med/Surg Oncology, 4 South Clinical Decision Unit, 3 South Orthopedics, and 3 North MS/Ortho/Urology Patient populations vary by unit and include trauma/surgical, neuroscience (CVA, TBI, seizure, craniotomy), oncology/palliative care, general Med/Surg (COPD, CHF, sepsis, renal failure), orthopedics/spine, and urology/ENT Patient ratios range from 1:5–6 depending on unit and patient type Shifts are 12 hours, available on both day (7a–7p) and night (7p–7a) rotations, with 36 hours per week standard Scheduling follows a 4-week cycle using Smart Square — no self-scheduling Weekend rotation required: every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month No on-call responsibilities EMR: Cerner (preferred); IV pumps: Plum 360; Medication dispensing: Omnicell; Monitors: Spacelabs Telemetry is monitored by telemetry techs, but RNs are required to interpret and confirm strip readings every 4 hours Unit support includes CNAs (1:6), charge nurses, receptionists/HUCs, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, and hospitalists Requirements Active AL RN license or compact RN license — AL license required prior to start (candidates may be considered pending licensure with an ETA) Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg nursing experience required At least 1 year of trauma/surgical experience required for the Trauma Surgical unit Core clinical skills required include IV starts, wound care, chest tube management, NGT, PEG tubes, trach care, foley care, ostomy care, central line care, and medication administration Chemo administration certification highly preferred for the Med/Surg Oncology unit Cerner EMR experience preferred Telemetry strip interpretation skills required Candidate must reside more than 60 miles from the facility to be eligible for this travel position Required documents for consideration: 1 reference from charge nurse or above (within the past 12 months), copy of certifications, full SSN, and date of birth (day and month) Additional Information Level II Trauma Center, Level III NICU, and Primary Stroke Center — 492-bed facility Orientation consists of 24 hours of classroom time and 24 hours of on-unit training for travelers new to the facility or those who have been away for 1 year; orientation for returning travelers depends on the last date worked Former permanent staff must have been separated for at least 6 months (from last shift worked to new start date) before being eligible to return as a traveler Holiday coverage is required for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy — scheduling for holidays is not guaranteed in either direction prior to arrival Blackout RTO periods apply throughout the year; requests during these windows require manager approval Scrub color: any color permitted Parking is available in the parking deck on levels 2 through 4 only First-time travelers are welcome to apply with at least 18 months of Med/Surg experience Candidates should be prepared for an interview — this facility does not use auto-offers American Traveler Job ID P-683159.
