Job Description & Requirements Specialty: CVU - Cardiovascular Unit Discipline: RN Start Date: 03/30/2026 Duration: 13 weeks 36 hours per week Shift: 12 hours, days Employment Type: Travel Assignment Overview Shift: Days, 3x12hrs Hours: 36 hrs/wk Start Date: Mar 30, 2026 Length: 13 weeks Openings: 5 Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Stepdown (CVU) position at a Level 1 Trauma facility, requiring at least 1 year of cardiac/vascular stepdown experience and active ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications. Details Acute care stepdown unit (CVU) in a Level 1 Trauma hospital setting 18-bed unit specializing in intermediate care and downgraded CVICU patients, supporting thoracic, EP, cath lab, and structural heart programs Common diagnoses include Cath Lab patients, CVAs, CHF, A-fib RVR, and other cardiac and vascular conditions Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4, with 1:3 for post-surgical patients in the first 24 hours RNs are required to titrate drips including Amiodarone, Nitroglycerin, Nicardipine, Epinephrine, Cardizem, and other blood pressure management medications Remote telemetry techs on unit; RNs must independently read and interpret telemetry strips Respiratory therapy available 24/7; equipment includes BiPAP, CPAP, and Nasal Cannula Hospitalist and Intensivist in house 24/7; Cardiology on call after hours Charge nurse on each shift — rarely takes an assignment Nurse aides/patient care techs available at a 1:18 ratio 12-hour day shifts, 0630-1900 Every other weekend required Float requirement to all same-level and lower-acuity units No on-call or standby requirement EMR: Epic Requirements Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required — pending certifications not accepted Minimum 1 year of experience with cardiac/vascular stepdown patient population required Minimum 2 years of overall RN experience required BSN not required Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility (driver's license used to verify permanent address) Candidates may not be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) at any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire Copy of driver's license required for consideration Additional Information Unit is currently operating under Crisis Protocol Orientation is tailored to individual experience, typically 1–2 shifts on the unit, followed by a pass/fail open-book exam on orientation Friday — a minimum score of 90% is required to pass Schedule is manager-assigned; no block or self-scheduling Artificial nails are strictly prohibited in all patient care areas — refusal to remove will result to contract termination Navy blue scrubs required RTO must be requested upfront; no more than 7 days per 13-week contract — additional RTO will not be approved after consideration American Traveler Job ID P-679579.
