Position Summary

A competent surgical technician, who, under supervision of the physician/registered nurse assists with the surgical procedures and provides patient care for ante partum and postpartum patients according to established policies and procedures in the Labor & Delivery area. Skills will be maintained to prepare the patient and assist throughout surgical procedures. Job requires knowledge, skill and ability to provide care for neo-natal, adolescent, and adult patient population.   Effectively interacts with the patient, significant others and health care team members.  Accountable to the patient and family for care provided and to the assigned patient care RN for the totality of work performance.  Meets all standards and requirements of LMHS universal job description

Provides clerical support to an assigned nursing unit according to established policies and procedures. Assists in the transcribing and processing of physicians orders, maintains patient charts in an accurate manner and maintains adequate unit supplies. 

Scrub Tech Responsibilities

  • Able to recognize an emergency and respond in a critical situation.
  • Demonstrates proper technique related to cleaning and processing of surgical instruments.
  • Maintain sterile field during surgical procedures.
  • Utilize hospital & department information/documentation systems (i.e. Epic and CPN). 
  • Maintain Glucometer Competency
  • Maintain knowledge for basic newborn nursery tasks including bathing, feeding, vital signs, measurements, and newborn testing.
  • Assist with newborn care in the delivery room and maintain appropriate infant temperature when completing tasks. 
  • Communicate effectively with all members of the healthcare team.
  • L&D daily shift checks of equipment & supplies.
  • Maintain & assists with ordering/stocking of supplies.

Unit Specialist Responsibilities

  • Complete patient registration and discharge process.
  • Ability to collect accurate information for birth certificate completion. 
  • Assist with data collection related to maternity statistical information.
  • Respond to medical and paramedical communications and notify medical personnel.
  • Utilize hospital and department information/documentation systems including (i.e. Epic and CPN). 
  • Maintains the nurse's station in a neat professional manner.
  • Ensures patient chart packets are prepared, and adequate forms and supplies are available in the nurse's station.
  • Input work orders for equipment repairs.
  • Accurately flag charts for required notification to physician/staff.
  • LMH is accredited by DNV and TJC, and as such, may require specific annual education related to specialty certifications and standards.

Requirements

  • Maintain Health Care Provider CPR Certification.
  • Previous surgical experience preferred but not required. 
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to obtain adult and infant vital signs and understanding of abnormal values. 
  • Understand and adhere to hospital & department policy and procedure.
  • Follows direction appropriately.
  • Works independently with minimal supervision. 
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Obtain Notary Public certification within 6 months of hire and maintain certification thereafter.
  • Operate fax, copier, and other office related equipment.
