Detailed Description:
Primary Responsibilities/Requirements:
- Perform general nursing duties
- Identifies patient needs and priorities for care through assessment
- Plans and delegates care based on patient needs
- Execute therapeutic physician orders and therapeutic nursing interventions
- Evaluate the patient's response to care and the attainment of or progress toward expected outcomes
- Collaborates with the surgeon in performing a safe operation with optimal outcomes for the patient
- Practices under the supervision and direction of the surgeon during all surgical procedures
- Does not concurrently function as a scrub nurse
- Demonstrates accountability by staying informed of current changes in practice, new equipment, and quality initiatives
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
- Graduate of Accredited School of Nursing required
- Proof of successful completion of an organized program of study on RN First Assisting, including clinical practice which has been accepted by CBPN (Certification Board Perioperative Nursing)
- This course of study must follow the format of the “Core Curriculum for the RN First Assistant” published by AORN.
Must also possess:
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadline
- Outstanding organizational, verbal and writing skills
- Independent and highly motivated
- Initiative and self-discipline
- Proven positive, "teamwork" attitude in work history
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to use arms, hands, and fingers skillfully
- Constant standing and walking
- Must be agile and able to work efficiently in space limited areas
- Constantly work at a productive pace
- Must readily adapt to frequent treatment schedule changes
- Lifting/Carrying/Pushing/Pulling up to 50 lbs
