Detailed Description:

Primary Responsibilities/Requirements:

  • Perform general nursing duties
  • Identifies patient needs and priorities for care through assessment
  • Plans and delegates care based on patient needs
  • Execute therapeutic physician orders and therapeutic nursing interventions
  • Evaluate the patient's response to care and the attainment of or progress toward expected outcomes
  • Collaborates with the surgeon in performing a safe operation with optimal outcomes for the patient
  • Practices under the supervision and direction of the surgeon during all surgical procedures
  • Does not concurrently function as a scrub nurse
  • Demonstrates accountability by staying informed of current changes in practice, new equipment, and quality initiatives

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Graduate of Accredited School of Nursing required
  • Proof of successful completion of an organized program of study on RN First Assisting, including clinical practice which has been accepted by CBPN (Certification Board Perioperative Nursing)
  • This course of study must follow the format of the “Core Curriculum for the RN First Assistant” published by AORN.

Must also possess: 

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadline
  • Outstanding organizational, verbal and writing skills
  • Independent and highly motivated
  • Initiative and self-discipline
  • Proven positive, "teamwork" attitude in work history

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to use arms, hands, and fingers skillfully
  • Constant standing and walking
  • Must be agile and able to work efficiently in space limited areas
  • Constantly work at a productive pace
  • Must readily adapt to frequent treatment schedule changes
  • Lifting/Carrying/Pushing/Pulling up to 50 lbs
