Job Title: Mental Health Professional (MHP)

Department: Mental Health Housing

Status: Full-Time

Reports To: Behavioral Health Site Manager

Compensation Starting Pay: $25.20/hr


PURPOSE:  The Mental Health Professional will provide engagement, support, and skill building to assist adults with a diagnosis of mental illness live as independently as possible. They will work directly with the QMHP regarding clinical issues.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  •  Assures that all clients receive clinically sound triage/referral and ongoing consumer services for behavioral health needs
  • Assists in completing functional assessments and provides input into the treatment planning process
  • Monitors the activities of individuals, then reports and documents changes in behavior and/or changes in symptoms
  • Coordinates the transportation needs of the residents and provides transportation when needed
  • Accountable for supervised residences’ being clean and free of safety hazards and reports problems using the chain of command
  • Delivers high-quality care appropriate to the age and educational level of the individual
  • Responds to crisis situations by providing direction, recommendations, and crisis intervention
  • Maintains accurate, concise, current clinical documentation. This includes but is not limited to all phone conversations, requests from the individual, changes in the clinical conditions and all consultations with team members
  • Utilizes a holistic approach to determine teaching methods appropriate to the individual 
  • Provides psychoeducation to clients and families regarding their illness, medications, and/or treatment plan to supplement information provided by health care professionals
  • Daily face-to-face contact with individuals to provide active-listening, support, and encouragement
  • Support and assist individuals with employment and education.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must demonstrate the ability to work effectively with adults experiencing mental illness while maintaining professionalism, appropriate boundaries, and confidentiality. The individual must be able to collaborate with treatment team members, respond appropriately to crisis situations, and perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIRED/PREFERRED: 

Degree/Field Required: High School Diploma or GED with five years of documented supervised clinical experience in mental health or human services; OR Any combination of education and experience that meets the requirements of a Mental Health Professional under 89 Ill. Adm. Code 140.453.

Degree/Field Preferred:  Bachelor's degree in counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work, Education, Psychology, Vocational Counseling, Family Therapy, Pastoral Counseling, or a related human service field; OR Bachelor's degree in another field with two years of documented supervised clinical experience in a mental health setting;

  • Experience working in adult mental health
  • Experience in residential, behavioral health, community support, or human services settings.

Licenses/Certifications Preferred: CPR/First Aid Certification

Problem Solving/Decision-Making: Ability to assess situations, recognize changes in behavior and symptoms, exercise sound judgment, respond effectively to crises, and implement appropriate interventions.

Proficient Computer Skills In: Outlook, Word, electronic documentation systems, database management software, and virtual communication platforms.

Expert Computer Skills In: N/A

Resource Management: Ability to coordinate services, transportation, appointments, educational opportunities, employment supports, and community resources while managing competing priorities.

Technical:  Ability to complete functional assessments, maintain clinical documentation, implement treatment interventions, provide psychoeducation, and support rehabilitative service delivery.

Trauma-Informed: Must display a willingness to adopt trauma-informed interventions, principles, and practices and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development in trauma-informed care. Recognizes the impact of trauma on children, families, caregivers, and communities and incorporates trauma-informed principles into all interactions and service delivery.
