The schedule for this position is Monday through Thursday - Four 10 hour shifts

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the guidance and supervision of the Registered Nurse, participates as a member of the OSS Health Ambulatory Surgery Center team in planning, preparing, and implementing safe and effective patient care while enhancing the OSS Health Ambulatory Surgery Center experience for patients undergoing surgery.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:

Education:

· High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree preferred.

Qualifications:

· Current Medical Assistant certification required.

· Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Medical Assistant or experience in a healthcare environment.

· Must possess strong computer skills and have the ability to learn new computer software on the job.

· Knowledge of medical and surgical terminology required.

· Current certification in basic life support (BLS) required, or the ability to obtain before working independently with patients.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Demonstrates expertise in the execution the duties and responsibilities of a Medical Assistant.

· Assists in the delivery of patient care under the direction of the Registered Nurse in the Preoperative and post anesthesia to include but is not limited to: transporting of patients, obtaining vital signs, preparation of IV bags, answering phones, collecting pre-admission testing, medical record preparation and assembly, use of Medent and CPSI, cleaning of patient bays, beds and equipment, stocking of supplies, handling of linen, trash and biohazard waste.

· Consistently demonstrates proper handling of instruments and equipment to avoid damage and loss as observed.

· Participates in decontamination and sterilization processes as defined by policy.

· Assists with application of dressings and transfers patient.

· Assists with general cleaning of room and sets up next case as observed.

· Assists in the delivery of patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse in the Pain Management areas.

· Assists with opening of supplies, patient care positioning, and other duties as assigned in the pain procedure rooms.

· Demonstrates a good rapport and cooperative relationship with all members of the team exemplifying service excellence.

· Demonstrates the ability to adapt to changes in the workload and work as part of the team to finish the schedule as observed.

· Assists other staff members with completion of routine duties of the department as observed.

· Demonstrates appropriate use of supplies and resources.

· Performs duties in a safe and efficient manner.

· Demonstrates an awareness of patient safety and proper body mechanics when moving patients or equipment.

· Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of departmental safety policies and procedures; participates in identification and evaluation of potential department safety problems and precautions as observed and documented.
