Job Description & Requirements Specialty: Neurosurgery Discipline: Nurse Practitioner Start Date: 03/22/2026 Duration: 1 weeks Shift: 10 hours, days Employment Type: Locum Tenens Locum Tenens NP/PA – Neuro Trauma / Critical Care Mercy Medical Center Redding | Redding, CA Level II Trauma Center Location: 2175 Rosaline Avenue, Redding, CA 96001 Coverage Type: Locum Tenens EMR: Cerner Care B Position Overview Mercy Medical Center Redding is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for Neuro Trauma / Neuro Critical Care coverage. This role supports the neurosurgery service in a Level II Trauma Center , managing critically ill patients with brain, spine, and neck injuries. Candidates must have at least one year of neurosurgery, neurocritical care, or neurology experience . Note: Locum APPs on this service do not assist in surgery . Schedule & Coverage 10‑hour day shifts: 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM No call requirements Coverage Dates Needed: March 22 June 23–25 Clinical Responsibilities Round and evaluate all patients on the neurosurgery service Coordinate care with the neurosurgeon on call Write daily progress notes, consult notes, discharge summaries, and instructions Evaluate new consults Remove drains and perform bedside procedures as privileged Communicate changes in neurological status promptly Collaborate with nursing, case management, social work, and allied health teams Communicate care plans with patients and families Privileges & Procedures Low to Moderate Risk Procedures Laceration repair Peripheral IV access Fracture and dislocation reductions Dressing changes, suture removal, wound debridement Cervical spine clearance Advanced Neuro Procedures Manipulation and removal of EVDs, lumbar drains, subdural drains Removal of intracranial pressure monitors Ordering spinal braces High‑Risk Procedures (Not Required) Intubation, chest tubes, central lines, arterial lines, cardioversion Patient Volume 15–20 ICU patients per provider per day Compensation Hourly Rates $145 per hour Requirements Board Certified NP (ANCC/AANP) or PA (NCCPA) Active California license ACLS required ATLS preferred (not a dealbreaker with strong neuro experience) DEA required Clean malpractice history This opportunity is ideal for experienced APPs seeking high‑acuity neuro‑trauma exposure , day‑only shifts , and a collaborative neurosurgical environment in Northern California.
